Los Alcázares is a Spanish municipality in the Murcia region, located on the banks of the Mar Menor and at the last census, in 2017, it was counting 15,349 inhabitants. It occupies 9 km on the coast of the Mar Menor of which 7 km are golden sandy beaches skirting the shallow and warm waters of this beautiful "Little Sea". It borders the municipalities of San Javier to the North, Cartagena to the South and Torre-Pacheco to the West.
The town owes its name to the Arabic word "al-Kazar" - which means castle or fortress, and refers to the holiday mansions that were once built by the Muslims in this coastal village.

All along this promenade you will encounter beautiful, traditional beach-front properties, sailing clubs, beach bars (Chiringuitos) or children's play parks. The main attraction to this area, for many tourists, is the distinct lack of loud music bars and tacky gift shops which proves that this beautiful sea front promenade has retained its relaxed family feel.
More towards the “New Town" part of Los Alcázares there is an area dedicated to late night music and disco bars, a modern shopping indoor shopping centre with multi-screen cinema and arcade, which ensure that, whilst quite lower key than many other Spanish resorts and still predominantly geared towards families, Los Alcázares has plenty to offer for all ages and tastes.
